    As the AML Supervisory Authority for the accounting profession, CIIPA is charged with registering all accounting firms, monitoring compliance, and issuing guidance, directives and procedures. 

    Accounting firms providing accounting services including bookkeeping, payroll, and tax advisory are invited to send representatives to one of three Lunch and Learns hosted by CIIPA.

    The workshop will cover roles and responsibilities in regard to Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism, as well as provide an overview of the AML/CFT monitoring and inspection process.

    This one-day business environment update will give participants an update on the business environment in the Cayman Islands with emphasis on the financial services sector with topical regulatory and legal content. 

    Speakers:

    • Hon. Roy McTaggart, Minister of Finance and Economic Development will provide an overview of the current business environment in the Cayman Islands including, updates on government finances, the beneficial ownership law, revenue collection projects and the future development plans for the country.
    • David McGibbon, EY Principal and Nali Shaw, EY Senior Manager will update the audience on the latest in Artificial Intelligence, focusing on the disruption and innovation it is triggering in audit practices. 
    • Richard Scott-Hopkins, Partner, KPMG will cover the findings of AIMA's research paper From Niche to Mainstream - Responsible Investment and Hedge Funds and provide insights into how hedge funds and companies are adopting Responsible Investment and/or deploying Environment Social Governance ("ESG") factors. 
    • Laura Hatfield, Attorney, Solomon Harris will give an overview on the new International Tax Co-Operation ("Economic Substance") Law, 2018 and the associated Regulations and Guidance Notes whilst encouraging some open discussion on the challenges and opportunities it presents. 
    • Jan Liebaers, Deputy Ombudsman, Information Rights Division will explain to the audience key concepts, principles, legal bases for processing personal data, and rights of individuals under the new Cayman Islands Data Protection Law ("DPL"), which comes into effect on 30 September 2019.

    Learning Objectives:

    1. Provide an update on the economy, with a focus on the Cayman Islands.

    2. To simulate thinking about the impact of artificial intelligence on assurance practices in particular and the profession as a whole.

    3. To highlight the adoption, growth and challenges of Responsible Investment.

    4. To provide an overview of the new economic substance law and associated regulations and guidance notes; and encourage open discussion on challenges and opportunities it presents.

    5. To map out the key concepts, principles, legal bases for processing personal data, and rights of individuals under the new Cayman Data Protection Law in September 2019; and the powers, tools and guidance of the Office of the Ombudsman, charged with the enforcement of the law.

    Who should attend:

    Those working in the financial services sector who want an update on recent developments in the industry.
