MENTORING

CIIPA is pleased to re-launch its mentoring programme, providing opportunities for members to share their knowledge and experience with students launching their accounting careers.

Registration for mentor training can be completed online. By registering for training, members: commit to a minimum of 6 face-to-face meetings over a 6-month period, monthly phone conversations in between meetings, understand conversations between mentor and participant are to remain confidential.

We invite CIIPA members, through the Careers and Mentoring programme, to use your wealth of experience to help young accountants launch their careers. In addition to sharing your creativity, experience and knowledge; mentors will also be able to develop coaching and leadership skills by attending free training workshops designed for volunteer mentors.

The primary objective is to prepare volunteers for the realities of the mentoring experience and to set the stage for the mentors' relationships with their students.

All volunteer mentors are required to attend three, 2-hour workshops:


Workshop I: The Mentoring Experience

  • Understand the role of a mentor and develop a deeper understanding of the expectations of that role
  • Understand yourself and your ability to relate well to others
  • Understand what is expected of you in this mentoring role


Workshop II: Coaching through Motivational Dialogue

  • Understand the spirit of motivational interviewing
  • Demonstrate basic skills for enhancing motivation and evoking change
  • Integrate MI techniques into existing strategies for career coaching

Workshop III: Encouraging a Career Focus

  • Practice being Change Agents
  • Practice developing Career Focus
  • Once training is complete, mentors will be matched with accounting students at UCCI and ICCI
